Our Intent

The primary objective of Religious Education at Norbreck Primary Academy is to inspire students to develop a deepened knowledge and understanding of the major world religions, as well as non-religious views, and to explore what it means to be human.

The children will:

Develop a knowledge and understanding of religious traditions represented in Great Britain and the world today.
Develop a sense of respect for religious traditions, beliefs, and practice.
Develop awareness that responses to ultimate questions are found within religious traditions.
Offer opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development.
Develop skills and attitudes which will support personal, moral, social and cultural development.

Our Religious Education program is designed to encourage understanding, respect, and appreciation of diverse beliefs and practices. We offer a variety of engaging activities that promote both learning and community engagement:

Whole School Assemblies: We celebrate special occasions like World Religion Day, where students come together to explore and reflect on the importance of religious diversity.
Guest Speakers: We invite visitors from a range of religious and non-religious backgrounds to share their personal beliefs and the ways they practice them, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding.
Celebrating Key World Events: Throughout the year, we mark significant religious and cultural celebrations such as Christmas, Eid, Diwali, and Chinese New Year, helping students gain insight into global traditions.
Interactive Learning: Our lessons incorporate a wide range of resources, including photographs, artefacts, religious stories, poetry, drama, and trips to places of worship. These diverse materials enrich our students' learning experiences and deepen their understanding of world religions.

Through these activities, we aim to nurture a respectful and inclusive environment where students can learn about, appreciate, and celebrate different faiths and world views.

How we Implement RE at Norbreck

We use the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus which was revised in 2021 for our RE curriculum.

‘The syllabus aims to support pupils’ personal search for meaning as they explore what it means to be human. It continues to follow the Lancashire Field of Enquiry model, but also specifies knowledge and skills which build towards clear goals at the end of each key stage. This ensures that the curriculum is progressive, clearly sequenced, and suitably ambitious.’ (Lancashire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, 2021)

In accordance with the structure of the Lancashire Agreed syllabus, the content of Religious Education at Norbreck Primary Academy takes account of pupils' needs in RE. These include exploring shared human experience, exploring living religious traditions, exploring beliefs and values and the search for personal meaning. For each unit of work a key question is explored.

Impact

Children at Norbreck have knowledge and understanding of different religions and cultures. They are respectful and considerate of all beliefs and can reflect upon their own. The children can ask ultimate questions and accept that these cannot always be answered.

Religious Education helps children develop cultural awareness and appreciation for both their own and others' heritage. Through exploring identity and belonging, children are better equipped to make positive and meaningful contributions to their community.

The teaching of RE can have a positive impact on children's personal growth and development.
